A day trip to the monastery and church in Tihaljina is one of the most popular outings from Medjugorje. When the visionaries were asked how best to describe Mary as they see her in the apparitions, they pointed to the statue of Our Lady in the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Tihaljina. A truly graceful experience.
The parish was formed in 1889, when it separated from the parish of Ružići. Fr. Jozo Zovko, parish priest from 1985 to 1991, renewed the parish house and the church; the old parish house became a home for the sisters and the church grounds were beautifully restored.
