The Marian Community - Oasis of Peace (CMOP) is a loving and diverse family within the Catholic Church, dedicated to a life of consecration. This community includes men and women from different walks of life, such as internal consecrated members, some of whom are priests, secular consecrated members, and married couples.

United by a deep spiritual purpose, they strive to intercede for peace and foster harmony in all places and situations, always guided by the compassionate presence of Mary. Together, they embark on this meaningful journey, seeking to make the world a more peaceful and loving place for everyone.

The Beginning

The origins of the CMOP are deeply rooted in the heartfelt experiences of young people in the beautiful Bosnian town of Medjugorje. It was here that many felt a transformative encounter with the Queen of Peace, who, through her gentle apparitions, called them to a path of prayer, penance, and conversion. These young individuals were inspired by her messages of simplicity and peace, longing to embody those ideals in their lives through a commitment to consecration. In a significant way, Mary met them at a crucial junction in their lives, guiding them toward the true source of peace—Jesus. This poignant journey began in 1987, leaving a lasting impact on their hearts.

Passionist priest Gianni Sgreva confidently embraced the aspirations of the early brothers and sisters, inspired by the grace of Medjugorje. Recognizing the urgent call of young people and the world's pressing need for peace and reconciliation, he took decisive action.

On March 25, 1987, the Marian Community - Oasis of Peace was officially established. The first house was inaugurated on May 18 of that same year in Priabona, Vicenza, Italy. The community quickly achieved initial ecclesiastical recognition from the Diocese of Sabina-Poggio Mirteto (Rieti, Italy) on December 25, 1990. This recognition was ultimately solidified on February 5, 1999, when the community was formally designated as a Public Association of the Christian Faithful, paving the way for it to evolve into an Institute of Consecrated Life.

We are grateful to Mary, the Queen of Peace, because with her motherly love and help she met us in our lives and has led us to meet God, Jesus, the Prince of Peace

(cf. Is 9:5; Eph 2:14) alive in His Church.
